A dress inspired by the great Azzedine Alaia…

My personal development projects have mainly focussed on how to showcase the integral properties of knit within a couture environment.
In August 2018 I visited the Alaia exhibition at the Design Museum in London.
I was blown away by the attention to detail and the way his dresses worked with the female form. The attention to detail and exquisite workmanship was breathtaking.

I left feeling more inspired than I had done in years, and with an overwhelming desire to make something in honour of what I had just seen.
The Hatakeyama Revisited dress, inspired by using the materials created during my BA came first. But then I really wanted to see how I could use just knitting to produce an evening dress that worked with in harmony with the body and the knit.

Azzedine Alaia really knew how use the process of knitting with couture at it’s core, this is my Ode to Alaia…
